William Afton was one of the two founders, alongside Henry Emily of what would become Fazbear Entertainment. 

History:

Early Life and Career Beginnings (1938–1965)

Born in April 1938 in the market town of Higham Ferrers, Northamptonshire, William Afton was the eldest child of Admiral Harold Mark Afton and Judy Belgrave Smith, followed by siblings Nancy and Harold Jr. After his father died serving overseas in Pearl Harbour during the Second World War, his mother relocated the family to Bedford, Bedfordshire, where William developed an enduring interest in engineering and construction. Leaving home at age 16, he secured a job at Drayton Manor Resort in Tamworth, Staffordshire, meeting fellow ride operator and machine maintenance man, Henry Emily. Inspired by Supermarionation and the animatronic birds in Mary Poppins, the pair saved their earnings and went into business together building animatronics, eventually taking a gamble to move to Belfast in Northern Ireland in 1966.

Purple Bear's Diner and Transition to London (1966–1975)

In Belfast, Afton and Emily opened "Purple Bear's" diner in mid 1966, constructing their first animatronic—"Purple Bear"—in 1969. The singing robot became a massive hit with families, drawing guest performances from legendary acts like Black Sabbath, Queen, Sweet, and the Rolling Stones, which forced the venue to use its outdoor car park for large crowds. The diner flourished until 1971, when Purple Bear caught fire during a performance and broke down permanently, causing the venue to close.

Afton and Emily returned to England and established "Fredbear Entertainment" in London by merging Afton Robotics Ltd and Emily Animatronics. In 1975, they debuted "Puppet Foxy" (The Puppet) as the mascot for the new Fredbear's Family Diner in London. They expanded the lineup in 1979 by introducing "Fredbear" (a Golden Bear) and subsequently "Spring Bonnie" (a yellow rabbit). In 1980, Puppet Foxy suffered damage and underwent temporary repairs; upon returning to the stage, his voice inexplicably shifted to German, baffling Afton and Emily.

Fazbear Entertainment Expansion (1983–1989)

Following the murder of Henry Emily at his Coventry home in November 1983, Steven Raglan stepped in as co-owner alongside William Afton (though administrative errors briefly masked that Afton brought in Raglan without notifying the company). After Fredbear's Family Diner closed in 1983, Afton and Raglan rebranded to "Fazbear Entertainment" and opened "Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria," retaining a limited-movement Puppet Foxy alongside four newly built animatronics: Bonnie the Bunny, Chica the Chicken, Foxy the Pirate Fox, and Freddy Fazbear.

While maintaining the animatronics out of the spotlight between 1983 and 1989, Afton spearheaded regional expansion, opening a Cardiff branch, planning an Edinburgh location, launching the "Rockstars" in Manchester in 1986, the "Funtimes" in Nottingham in 1988, and the "Glamrockers" in Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 1993.

The Toy Era and Demise (1990–1996)

In 1990, Afton and Raglan replaced the Fazbear Band with the Toy Animatronics, renaming the London venue to "Toy Freddy's Pizzeria." Afton equipped the new models with advanced features, including a Facial Recognition Database linked to local police systems, London layout plans, a Modular Take-Apart System for Toy Foxy, Audio Lures, and Social Manipulation. After visiting the site, he assigned his trusted friend Joshua Guest (Scroll) to resolve operational issues at the Cardiff branch, mentioning that he himself was relocating to Bristol.

Between 1992 and 1996, a series of unexplained disappearances—including homeless individuals, missing teens, and city councillors—plagued the area. In August 1996, Afton arrived at the Cardiff Branch to perform maintenance on deteriorating animatronics, which suddenly animated. Trapped during an escape attempt, Afton hid in a storage room and took refuge inside an old Spring Bonnie springlock suit without winding the mechanisms. The springlocks failed catastrophically, fatally stabbing him and transforming him into "Springtrap" (while Guest, arriving shortly after, met a similar fate in a prototype Dragon suit). Raglan subsequently ordered the closure of the Cardiff branch and continued operating Fazbear Entertainment.
